Potential Inclement Weather Scenario
We share this plan with you in the event that your fifth grade week at Fairview begins with a winter weather event that could result in a delayed opening and or school closure or any combination thereof. It is designed around the four-day student week at Fairview typically running from Tuesday - Friday, though there are several weeks where students attend a Monday - Thursday program. Please see schedules below:
If your child attends on a Tuesday-Friday Schedule:
Tuesday (Day 1) - If there is a two hour delay, your child will arrive at Fairview two hours late.
Tuesday (Day 1)- If schools are closed all day, your child will come to Fairview on the next day on time.
Wednesday (Day 2) - If there is a two hour delay on day 2, your child will go to Fairview two hours late.
Wednesday (Day 2) - If school is closed, then students will go to Fairview at a later time (TBD).
These changes will be communicated to parents via Fairview's FACEBOOK page, and the automated phone system through your child's home school.
It is possible that a winter weather condition or other emergency require students to be sent back to their home school. In such cases, parents will be notified via the Fairview webpage, and the automated phone system.
Note* In the event of the need to enact any of these protocols, your school will send out a message informing you of the adjustment in regard to the Fairview visit. It is possible a fifth grade group remain on site and that Fairview continue its' operations while the WCPS system is closed if a winter weather event occurs from an inaccurate forecast. Obviously, we would be doing our very best to anticipate a winter weather event that could result in WCPS schools closing once a fifth grade group was already on site and would be doing everything in our power to dismiss students from the Fairview program in a safe manner where their safety would be a priority.

Safety and Emergency Preparedness
.
Staff at Claud E. Kitchens Outdoor School work closely with Steve Ganley (Safety/Security Specialist/Risk Manager) within our school system to systematically review safety plans at Fairview. We review fire safety evacuation plans with students upon arrival as part of their dorm orientation and conduct fire evacuations so that students are prepared in case of the need to evacuate a dorm, dining hall, or the Roundhouse for any reason. Staff at Fairview attend and participate in annual safety and emergency preparedness training supported by WCPS personnel.
